The 2nd Annual Violence Free Begins with Me Conference

On July 15th, 2016, the Health Asian and Pacific Islander Youth Empowerment Program (HAPI-YEP) brought 20 of our students to participate in the 2nd Annual Violence Free Begins with Me Conference held at the Long Beach Art Expo.  This conference was created by Center for the Pacific Asian Family to promote healthy relationships and develop the youth into leaders in the movement to end violence.  HAPI-YEP and CPAF were joined by Project Motivate and Educated Men with Meaningful Messages (EM3).  A total of over 100 youth participated in the events.  The event had two guest speakers and spoken word artists : Narinda Heng, a queer, Khmer American woman spoken word artist and Fong Tran, a Vietnamese American spoken word artist.  The youth participated in various workshops and dialogues about healthy relationships, identities, and resiliency.
